The first image emerged, resembling only the feet of the Lord, and was named Lord Madan Mohanji. Focused, he drew a second image, with only the chest portion, known as Lord Gopi Nath Ji. Determined to outline the true likeness of the beloved deity, the grandson came up with a third image, a perfect reflection of Lord Krishna himself, named Lord Govind Dev Ji. History of Govind Dev Ji Temple

Around 5,000 years ago, the story of this temple began with the journey of a Bengali saint, Sri Rupa Goswami. Sent by his master, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, with the mission to establish idols of Lord Krishna in sacred sites, Rupa Goswami reached Vrindavan. The desire of Sri Chaitanya was unfolding, and it led Rupa Goswami to a divine encounter with Lord Krishna himself, disguised as a helpful boy guiding him to the location. With the help of villagers, Rupa Goswami found the idol and erected a humble shrine for the Lord in his Govind Dev Ji avatar. In the 16th century, Raja Man Singh of Jaipur, a follower of the saint, built the temple at the same sacred spot during the pilgrimage of Mughal ruler Akbar to Vrindavan. But, when the temples of Vrindavan came under the radar of Aurangzeb’s destructive campaign, the deity found refuge in Amber. In the early 18th century, Raja Sawai Jai Singh brought Govind Dev Ji to Jaipur, where the temple stands today.
