History of Adi Varaha Temple

It all began in SatYuga when sage the devotion of Kapil earned him the grace of Lord Adi Varah. Sage Kapil granted the deity to the King of Swarglok, Indra, after being thoroughly pleased with him. Well, destiny took a turn when Ravana defeated Indra and claimed the deity for himself. Later, Shri Ram killed Ravana and brought the sacred deity to Ayodhya, where it found a revered place in his palace. The story continued with Shatrughna, the younger foster brother of Lord Ram. Carrying the divine presence to Mathura, Shatrughna fulfilled his quest of defeating Lavanasur and then established the deity where it is today, the Adi Varah Temple.

Story of Lord Varaha

Long, long ago, there were these gatekeepers cursed to take three births as enemies of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyaksha and his brother Hiranyakashipu were born demons, causing trouble for everyone. They got powerful by doing prayers for thousands of years and defeated almost everyone in the universe. Hiranyaksha, always in the mood for a fight, even challenged the ocean god Varuna but got no real challenge. So, he lifted the whole Earth and tossed it into the ocean. That is when Lord Vishnu took the form of a giant boar, Varaha, to save the Earth. An intense battle happened, and Varaha knocked Hiranyaksha out with a powerful hit. Earth got back to its place, and Varaha, now in a regular form, rested in Mathura. The Earth thanked Varaha for saving it, and later, Lord Vishnu took care of Hiranyakashipu too.
